Recent Events


Hello (after way too long a hiatus from blog-updating and various other communications.) The last few months have been a very difficult season for us, and I am just now getting my head above water. The school year is finally completed, several post-school-year faculty obligations are essentially done, and thus vacation is now in full swing. Since it’s been two months since my last update, I thought that a simple listing of happenings might be the most helpful blog entry right now. You’ll note difficult items, good-but-labor-intensive-items, and of course some straight-up fun items as well:

April 17 – Last blog update

April 20, 27, etc. – Wednesday Bible study leading continues; great blessing

April 22 – David’s soccer team goes on service & evangelism trip to village (pics on our fb page)

May (month) – Heidi serves as branch nurse again while regular nurse is in Canada

May 12 – Luke has seizure

May 13 – Long-time friend from RCC dies completely unexpectedly of heart infection

May 19 – David’s small group mentees (senior boys) take him out for end-of-year soda

May 20 – Luke has seizure

May 21 – Luke takes SAT exam

May 24 – Due date for 31 ten-page Bible papers that David then has to grade

May 28 – RFIS All-School Banquet & Dance

May 29 – RFIS Baccalaureate service

June 1 – Dinner at Ernest & Nancy Buba’s (Bible study) home; wonderful Cameroonian hospitality

June 2 – Luke has seizure

June 3 – Anna’s last day of 6th grade!

June 3 - Donor offers to cover significant travel expenses for Luke; PTL

June 4 – David’s brother married in Nashville, skyped successfully to Cameroon!

June 6-8 – High school final exams

June 6-8 – Grading lots of exams, writing lots of report card comments

June 8 – Luke has seizure

June 8 – Gabe wins RFIS Drama Award

June 9 – David speaks at RFIS Commencement

June 12-15 – Family travels 4 hours to Douala for MRI and respite

June 12 – Train to Douala leaves 2 hours late

June 13 – Luke has MRI (clear, PTL)

June 15 – Train engine breaks down mid-trip, 3-hour delay

June 17 – Heidi, Luke, Anna depart for USA for medical care and seeing family

June 18 – David & Heidi 22nd anniversary (apart this year—yuck!)

David is a pastor and former math teacher from Abington, PA, USA (near Philadelphia.) Heidi is a registered nurse and former missionary kid. Their children are Luke, Gabe and Anna.

The Huizengas currently live in Yaoundé, Cameroon where David is teaching at Rain Forest International School. The founding purpose of RFIS is to enable the ongoing work of Bible translation and related Christian missionary endeavors in Cameroon and neighboring countries in central and west Africa.
