Current Happenings

Speaker: Last week David spoke in the weekly RFIS chapel. The message centered on texts in Deuteronomy and Revelation relating to making sense of our struggles and trials this side of Glory.

  • Running Club: Heidi is now mentoring/assisting with the RFIS running club. It's a great opportunity to build relationships with students.

  • The Greenhouse (Anna's school): Heidi has begun helping with preschool kids twice a week. Anna has particularly enjoyed science there. She researched the element lead (Pb) and was a chlorine atom in a drama presentation on molecular bonding. =)

  • Discipleship: David is now leading one of the weekly small-groups at RFIS. The group consists of three young men--2 tenth graders, 1 eleventh, all three Cameroonian. They are studying the book of Proverbs. Gabe and Luke are participating in discipleship groups as well.

  • Soccer: The first official soccer (football!) match for Luke took place on Saturday. Not an all-star yet, but he's working hard to catch up to the level of kids who have played the game for many years. David played in a staff-vs.-student game a few days prior. (He came home acutely aware that it has been two and a half decades since the glory days of goalkeeping at Houghton Academy...) Gabe's first love is not soccer, but he has thoroughly enjoyed a softball unit in Phys Ed. Apparently--the coach said--he became one of the most consistent hitters in the class.

  • Church: Last week Heidi and David led music at an ex-pat (many missionaries, international travelers, etc..) congregation. This week we're attending a Cameroonian church. Next week David will be preaching at the ex-pat church (International Christian Church of Yaoundé.)
